Hello beautiful people,
I hope you’re all having a beautiful Monday, I am! Yes still on that island life, socking in as much beauty as I can. Every spot here is beautiful and of course with beauty comes Instagram thoughts right? Like I want to enjoy that but I also want to take a photo for Instagram at the same time but then again am only one person [yes I am on a solo trip.. Again] with one functioning brain and I didn’t carry Tweny moments [Photographer] with me but also I don’t want to choose one option I want both, even if you’re with company, you don’t want to nag them with endless photo shoots so what to do, what to do? Let’s be honest, we all have these thoughts especially if you’re a blogger. Like you want to enjoy the moment but you also want to get amazing shots for the GRAM oh THE GRAM…
I decided I will have both and thus far, it’s been a success so I figured I could share my tips and tricks with you maybe they will be helpful at some point.
Be ready in your outfit, like girl on the go: This starts when you wake up in the morning. Think of the activities you’re going to do and plan your outfit around them. If you have trouble choosing the right outfit, lean towards neutrals, nope you don’t want to be that human who needs an outfit change bc you’re clad in colors that overpower or clash with the whole photo environment.
Photos before fun: This totally works for me on all levels. My photos always have authentic expressions bc I take them right when I get there. So all the excitement, vigor and wows are captured right in the moment. Also, its harder to get people up to take your photos after they’ve already gotten comfortable and settled in place. They might be willing to take one or two which is great for instant posting but what about the TBT photo for 2 months later? Lol. In addition I say do it first so it doesn’t have to nag at the back of your mind.
Figure out your photo inspiration beforehand. Remember, you’re working with tops 5 minutes of somebody else’s time. If you’re team extra like me, you know you want a theme for your photos that links them all together. Be it angles, posing style, capturing points or photo type [I don’t know if these are real photography terminologies but the strangers who took the pictures seemed to understand them all! probably its layman’s photography language idk!]
Set a time limit. This is very crucial bc with photographs, you can easily get buried into it, no kidding [it has happened to me before] Everything might be amazing and Instagram worthy but there is always going to be somebody with a much better shot than yours taken in the same place and that’s okay. You don’t want to look at this photo in the future and the only memory attached to it is an endless photo session. Set a time limit, say 10 minutes or so and when time is up, just STOP! Yeah you might capture one or two more photos during your fun time but this should be done without wi-fi. The upload can wait.
And finally, this one is for solo travelers. Choosing the right photographer! Ha ha.. The struggle is real I tell you. Warning, this might come off as a con, which it probably is but don’t judge me, am just a girl trying to make it in life. Have your smile on full display, compliments on hand and be ready to talk about the weather. This my friends will turn anyone into a photographer in a snapshot!
There you have it, I look forward to all your holiday photos, please tag me on Instagram.
To all the people who took my pictures, I hope we can reconnect on Instagram so you can see your work of art! Unfortunately I didn’t get all your names but I remember Fakim, Jehona, Yusuf, Prisca, Sean, Bahe and many more. Thank you, thank you, thank you, you’re far too kind!
